Privacy Policy

Olfatuation (“we”, “us”) is a perfume price-comparison service for Qatar, operated by an individual based in Qatar. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the control you have over it. You can browse the entire catalogue and compare prices without an account — the data below mostly applies once you choose to sign in or opt into analytics.

Who is responsible

What we collect

• Account details — when you sign up, our authentication provider (Clerk) stores your email address, name if you provide one, and sign-in metadata. We never see or store your password.
• Your activity in your account — the perfumes you love, the ones you watch for price drops, your price-alert preferences, and your onboarding taste answers. We keep these to provide the service (your saved lists, recommendations, and alerts).
• Analytics & session replay — only if you opt in. With your consent we use PostHog and Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, including pseudonymous session replays (recordings of on-screen interactions, with all text inputs masked). If you sign in, analytics may associate activity with your account so we can operate your saved perfumes and alerts. This is off until you accept.
• Error diagnostics — only if you opt in. With your consent we use Sentry to capture technical errors so we can fix them.
• Technical basics — like any website, our servers log IP address, browser, and pages requested for security and to keep the service running. These logs are short-lived.

How we use it

To run your account and saved lists, send the price-drop alerts you ask for, personalise recommendations, keep the service secure, and — only with your consent — understand and improve how the site is used. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Consent & cookies

Essential cookies (needed to keep you signed in and the site working) are always on. Analytics and session-replay cookies are off until you opt in via our consent banner, and you can change your mind at any time. See our Cookie Policy for the full list.

Who we share it with

We share data only with the providers that make the service work, each acting on our behalf:

• Clerk — account sign-in and management.
• PostHog — product analytics and session replay (only with your consent).
• Google Analytics — aggregate traffic measurement (only with your consent).
• Sentry — error monitoring (only with your consent).
• DigitalOcean — hosting and databases.

When you click through to a retailer to buy a perfume, you leave Olfatuation and that retailer’s own privacy policy applies. We earn a commission on some of those clicks; it never changes the price you pay or the order sellers appear in (see our Terms).

Where your data is held

Our servers are hosted in the European Union (DigitalOcean, Frankfurt), and our providers may process data in other countries. Wherever it’s processed, we rely on these providers’ own safeguards to protect it.

How long we keep it

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Delete your account and we remove your account data and your saved lists, likes, watches, and preferences. Short-lived technical logs and anonymised, aggregated statistics may remain.

Your rights & choices

• Delete everything, yourself — you can permanently delete your account and all associated data from your account page at any time. No need to ask us.
• Access — email privacy@olfatuation.com for a copy of the data tied to your account.
• Withdraw consent — turn analytics and session replay back off at any time from the consent banner.

Children

Olfatuation is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy; we’ll revise the date above and, for significant changes, give notice in the app. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
